CARE GUIDANCE FOR PRODUCTS AND FURNITURE ITEMS

It is the responsibility of the client to ensure they obtain, read and adhere to the provided care instructions of the purchased products from the third-party supplier.

GENERAL CARE GUIDANCE:

  • Synthetics Rugs: Regular vacuuming will ensure keeping your rug clean and the pile as new. For liquid spills, clean promptly using a light blotting process. The majority of mild cleaning solutions available on the market along with mild shampoos and detergents should be fine for use on synthetic rugs as they will likely have been treated with a stain resistant coating. Vigorous scrubbing is not recommended as it may affect the pile and cause wear to the material.

  • Wood: Wood is a living breathing material, which must be treated with care. With exposure to light and air, wood, maple and oak will mature to a deeper colour. For this reason objects placed on surfaces could leave 'shadows' when removed. Should this happen, exposure to daylight will eventually darken these paler areas. Please use mats on delicate surfaces.

  • Do Not Mistreat Furniture: avoid rings and heat damage, it is advised to use coasters when setting glasses or mugs on wood tables, and never place hot food directly on them without the protection of a trivet or potholder. Incorporate decorative placemats or a tablecloth to protect your dining room table from food and drink spills. A regular dusting is required to avoid the build-up of airborne particles which can build a filmy layer on wood that scratches the surface, the use of delicate materials to dust is recommended.

  • Natural Light: Sunlight, heat and other environmental factors can cause discoloration and affect the overall appearance of wood. It is recommended to add throws, covers or adequately installed window treatments to avoid natural sunlight, vents or fireplaces as heat and light exposure can damage and fade wood.

  • Marble: Marble is a natural porous material and susceptible to damage if not treated with care. Avoid placing hot objects on the marble. Use coasters in case you need to have anything hot on the marble. Another thing you will want to do is to use ceramic or stone containers rather than metallic containers to avoid rust stains.

  • Acidic spills to Marble: are most harmful to your marble surface: stains such as wine, fruit juice, tomatoes and some soft drinks are harmful to your marble. After a spill, make sure to immediately blot the acids. Wiping and rubbing the acid makes it worse. You can use a professional commercial marble stain remover if the stain persists.

  • Cleaning Marble: Use a small cloth, microfiber, with warm, distilled water to clean marble. This is mostly after contact with food and other day to day dirt. Always dry up your marble with a dry cloth since marble is prone to water spots. Remember to avoid vinegar and other acidic cleaners when cleaning marble.

  • Fabrics: Most fabrics are susceptible to fading and natural wear over time. To avoid natural sunlight damage it is advised to use throws and covers to protect the fabric.

  • Velvet: Velvet is a type of woven tufted fabric, which can be made from several different types of fibres that are then woven on a specialist loom. The fabric creates a short dense pile, which gives the velvet its unique softness. However, due to its unique finish, it requires maintenance. For velvet furniture often subjected to heavy use, it is advisable to gently vacuum the fabric with an upholstery attachment at least once a week. Alternatively, you can also use a soft bristled or clothes brush, ensuring to brush in the direction of the nap of the fabric. Velvet is prone to marking, so be mindful not to leave anything heavy resting on your furniture for too long as this can cause marks and dents. To help prevent wrinkles, especially on sofas or armchairs where cushions and covers can be removed, it’s worth turning and shaking them regularly. This will help to avoid any long-term creases which may be more difficult to remove in the long term.

  • Leather: Leather is a natural product and each hide will have its own individual characteristics and natural marks. Differences in the grain, texture and colour may be apparent from one piece to another to another, some marking is inevitable and should be accepted as part of the individual appearance of leather furniture.

  • Rugs: New rugs, especially tufted versions will shed for a period of time upon installation. Regular gentle vacuuming using the suction-only attachment should keep this at bay. Avoid folding your rug. If you need to move it, wool or viscose rugs need to be rolled with the backing facing outwards to avoid damaging the pile. Allow 2-3 days after your rug installation for it to condition and lay flat. Do not dry clean or iron your rug! If your rug gets stained, always seek professional cleaning advice.

  • Metal Furniture: Do not use harsh chemicals on metal furniture. Do not leave any part of metal furniture damp or wet, as this will cause rusting-always wipe the item until fully dried. Do not apply heat to dry metal surfaces, as this will make it go very hot, and may cause visible marks. A damp cloth, free from any chemicals or solutions to clean your item, and wiped fully dry afterwards will be suffice.
